Villa Sonia, by a long shot. 3 minute walk to the forest but on the good (quiet) side so you don't get hassled by anyone ;) almost 5 years ago

Look up Loka palla villa! Quiet, gorgeous, and a short walk to the monkey forest. It's on airbnb almost 5 years ago

If you can get a booking, try Alam Shanti. Delightful but they are justifiably booked out months in advance: http://www.alamindahbali.com/alam_shanti.htm or see their Trip Advisor 5 star rating http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Hotel_Review-g297701-d587052-Reviews-Alam_Shanti-Ubud_Bali.html almost 5 years ago

The Pondok Pundi was excellent. A little more luxurious than "backpacker". We stayed in one of their BIG rooms, and there was certainly plenty of elbow room. Great brekky, very quiet, a bit jungly, nice pool, middle of MF Road. Internet connection in the room. If you don't like steps, ask for a street-level room.

Another one we like is Nick's Pension, but it's not really on MF Road, although it does have direct access to it across the little river that flows next to MF Road. Built around a rice paddy, on a dirt road parallel to MF Road, it's all lovely garden and the small restaurant looks across to rice paddies. Really nice. Rooms are fine and more affordable than the Pondok Pundi. almost 5 years ago
