Hi, We're transiting through Cairo airport twice with at least 3 hours clear of picking up baggage/checking in.
Wondering if it's possible to get to Giza to see the pyramids or see a museum? I know this is a very short time frame and traffic is bad so does anyone have any creative suggestions? My kids are Ancient Egypt-mad and staying at the airport seems like a shame.
What attractions in three hours? The duty free shop.
From central Cairo, the airport is in the opposite direction from the Pyramids. The museum will very likely be closed because of the protests, and even if it were open, you'd never have enough time to do anything except see the building. My advice is to go to Egypt on a full trip at another time. Great place to see. almost 7 years agoAnswered by roundabout
I'd personally say go for Khan El Khalili, that most spectacular oriental old Cairo and Islamic Cairo for a walk and shopping for pretty much real pieces of Egypt..it's also a historical place of old mosque museums and the most famous Moez Street walk!
3 hrs can be useful as it is a one drive on the same road of Airport can be taken which is Salah Salem Route ..so it might save time...on your way back and from... almost 7 years ago
It would be really risky to go down town as you may not be able to catch your plane so i would recommend you to visit city stars it's a big mail near to the airport & there you will find shops and venue just like khan el khalili but indoors almost 7 years agoAnswered by Ragaa Moustafa
The Khan is magical and would be about a 40 minute drive from the airport but Downtown can get you all tangled up in traffic. City Stars is a big western style mall not like the Khan at all, although there's a small section of it call the Khan that sells some traditional clothing, jewellery etc. really for tourists. I think the closest attraction would probably be the Citadel - around 30 mins form the airport - see the old Muhammad Ali Mosque mosque and palace etc. and Al Azhar Park is also close by it. The pyramids are about an hour away from the airport and it's such a drive you would run the risk of being caught up, even on the ring road.
